David Wilkerson – You Need The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit October 17, 2019 64 By William Hollis CategoryArticles BlogTagsbaptism of the Holy Spirit David wilkerson 64 Comments Jeannie Hardesty says: December 21, 2014 at 4:23 pm AWESOME TEACHING! Where is this being preached today? You ALL need the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Reply Rick Pettey says: July 16, 2015 at 9:40 pm The idea of Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a modern, unbiblical invention. The notion of such a baptism is NOWHERE TAUGHT IN SCRIPTURE. Those who point to Matt. 3:11 as proof of this nonsense rip this text out of context and completely divorce it from its meaning in the text which is a direct reference to what God will do on Pentecost as prophesied by Joel. It is a fulfilled prophecy. DONE. Such teach ignores the teaching of Jesus who said that when the Holy Spirit gave power to His church to preach the Gospel He (the Holy Spirit) would bring glory to the Son and bring to remembrance all that Jesus had taught. Pentecost was NOT TO PREACH THE HOLY SPIRIT. [John 15:26; 16:12-14]. The entire modern "Pentecostal Movement" is based in nothing more than emotion. Those who promote this false teaching sound very much like Mormons in their defense of it. They "know" its true because of what they feel in their hearts. Mormons know the BOM is true because they have the "burning in the bosom." Does anyone see a connection here? Promoting the BOHS is in reality, even though most likely unintentional, a turning away from the Gospel. Sorry, but its the truth. Reply Adan Gonzalez says: July 19, 2015 at 5:12 pm Rick you should hear this whole sermon its beyond emotions its spiritual… Jesus Christ works in mysterious ways brother Reply Truth Lover says: July 25, 2015 at 11:41 pm If you are born again, you already have the Holy Spirit living inside of you. The New Testament books encourage believers to be FILLED with the Spirit, which is a result of walking in obedience to the Lord. It is to be CONTROLLED by Him. If believers needed to seek the Baptism of the Spirit then why don't we read of this in all the epistles and New Testament books? There is NO emphasis on this! Because we already have everything we already need. We just need to walk in it. What happened in the book of Acts is unique for that particular time frame. Many believed intellectually but were not yet converted. Some believed into John the Baptists preaching but still were not converted. That is why there had to be an outward sign of conversion by tongues and signs and wonders; ie, the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Many signs were given then to validate the ministry of Christ and His disciples. This doesn't mean there are not still gifts for today, but what we saw happen during that monumental event in history is not what we necessarily should be seeing today. God does what He wants to, when He wants to. Reply Bud Lambert says: July 30, 2015 at 6:55 pm I would be careful if I was a naysayer to all of this. The reason…… it happened to me. One thing as a believer that we must understand, God will not give you something if you don't want it.And believe me it is in His hearts desire to Baptize you in The Holy Ghost. I will not go into detail what he has done through me since He blessed me with this gift, however a lot of things are nothing short of miracles. Reply James Delinois says: July 2, 2016 at 10:26 pm Paul received a special commission from the Lord in regard of baptism. Jesus did not tell Paul to baptize anyone as He had the other disciples. Jesus Christ gave Paul a different mission from that of the twelve disciples. The Lord Jesus Christ commissioned Paul as the apostle of the Gentiles while peter and the eleven as apostle of Israel. Acts 9:15-16, Galatians 2:2, ROMANS 11:13, EPHESIANS 3:1, ACTS 20:24 Reply James Delinois says: July 2, 2016 at 10:39 pm yes it is very important to receive the baptism of the holy spirit Reply James Delinois says: July 2, 2016 at 10:44 pm A church Assembly without the presence the Holy Spirit is a dead church. Reply Kim Roberts says: July 20, 2016 at 11:48 am amen Reply Frank Cadmus says: July 25, 2016 at 11:19 pm I cringe when someone says "Holy Ghost." The 3rd person of the Trinity isn't a "ghost."I'm Pentecostal and as a general group we think we are one up on other Christians who don't practice the gifts of the Spirit. You are no less a Christian if you don't have the baptism and I believe many Pentecostal don't bother with 1 Corinthians 13:1 because we are so hung up on the gifts of the Spirit. Reply Rick Pettey says: July 29, 2016 at 2:19 pm With the recent on-going exchanges that I have had with various individuals over this incredibly important topic, it became clear that I need to complete a project that I began a couple of years ago but put on a shelf. It was to offer a thoroughly biblical response to the now accepted teaching regarding the "Baptism in the Spirit." What today is accepted as foundational Christian teaching, is actually a novelty when considering it from the life of the church historical. Proponents of this teaching will typically respond to such a statement that this is due to the Roman Catholic Church. Such could not be further from the truth. I have now completed my Bible study on the "Baptism in the Spirit" with attention to the whole "spiritual gifts" supposedly associated with this event in a 15 page review focusing heavily on the biblical texts, the Word of God – in context! Due to its length it is impossible for me to post on YouTube. If my congregations had a web-page I would post it on one of them. Since neither is possible I will offer it to anyone wishing to honestly evaluate this teaching apart from the eisegesis which inspired it coming out of the Second Great Awakening. If you wish me to forward a copy to you, you may contact me at [email protected] I promise not to contact you further unless you request it. Reply Weezie says: November 6, 2016 at 11:21 pm Speaking in tongues, the biblical way is absolutely perfect! The thing is, I, myself, have never ever witnessed that in any Pentecostal/evangelical churches. Never, and I've been to a lot of them… Lets not fool ourselves, especially God!!! Most of these churches let the people (newcomers…) know in so many words that "speaking in tongues is a must." When it is NOT. It would be nice if it was done according to the Word of God. Then, the newcomer thinks that there is something wrong with them, think God doesn't love them because they can't speak in tongues like everyone else. More than often, they leave the church with a feeling of inadequacy. That's a reality I've witnessed too many times. Speaking in tongues is not done by babbling syllables over and over and over. When the whole church does it at the same time. When everyone babbles and no one understand, what do you call that? .I call that chaotic and a shame to the gift. How does that help to edify the church, members, visitors? It does NOT edify anyone. Praying in tongue is done ONLY to edify. Say I go to church and an Italian couple is visiting and they don't speak English. The Holy Spirit would give me or someone else the gift to speak Italian for them or interpreting. Doing that edifies the church. In 1 Cor 14 for it is well described. God Bless You all. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one lawgiver who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? "–James 4:11-12 Reply Ramona McFann says: December 14, 2016 at 5:27 pm Abba Heavenly Father in and through Jesus Christ holy spirit touched me. Jesus put me on that potter's wheel and took this old clayed vessel with his loving tears and shaped me into a new vessel. Then Jesus put me in the fiery furnace and sealed me with his holy spirit. Jesus didn't leave me there, he set me aside and hand-crafted me with his will and purpose for my life. I have been changed, I am a new (different) person. All I had to do was seek him with my whole heart and then surrender my ( heart, mind, body, and soul) to him totally. This was a process of going before Abba Heavenly Father in and through Jesus holy name crying out to him for forgiveness of all my sins (past, present) and future daily with a sincere and repentant heart. Jesus examines the heart and Jesus holy spirit ( convicted, chasened) and guided me along the way through his holy word. Don't give up, make a stand and continue to press towards Jesus for he will deliver you. I know because he did it for me. Now, I'm that woman at the well that tell everybody about a man that can save anybody, Amen. Jesus loves you and he cares about everything that concerns you. Jesus is calling you now, cry out to him while he is near. Do not let Jesus pass you by, he will meet you right where you are in your life. Jesus is a faihful Shepherd on this narrow path of life and he will never leave you or forsake you. Open the door of your heart and let him in, Amen…. Reply luke Twess says: January 9, 2017 at 8:16 am Luke TwessFace to Face The divinely inspired words spoken by me coming out of my mouth.Words, God created language, he is the original linguistic, wordsmith. There are a few words that over the years have become my favorite, like free, fringe benefits, benefits, favor, gifts, money in the bank, discounts, and I am sure you have a few favorite words that you could add to this list. I have noticed while reading the Bible that God has a few favorite words he uses when he is describing things he has prepared for those that love and obey him. Blessings, benefits, gifts, callings, redemption, salvation, the father’s house, joy, peace and the like. Recently as I was reading the book of Jude I notice there was a list of benefits for praying in tongues. I had read this book many times and stopped short of seeing these benefits; I would like to mention a few of them here.Jude verse 3: says that we should earnestly contend for the faith, while we are praying in tongues this causes our faith to be strengthened and enriched, then Jude says we should pray and recapture that which was delivered to the original apostles. The apostasy of truths was being spread concerning the doctrine of Christ by evil corrupt men who were likened unto brute beasts by the writer Jude.Verse 20 : he taught that we should pray in the Holy Spirit and by doing so we would be building ourselves up into a holy habitation for God otherwise known as a mansion, as Jesus had spoken of in the book of John. A permanent dwelling place for God, which is our body when it is built up and ready for his habitation. This comes about by praying in the Holy Ghost and allowing the pruning and the love of God to be shed abroad in our hearts.Verse 21 : that this type of prayer would enable us to walk in love and fill us with compassion to the point we would be able to make a difference in other people’s lives by our conversation and conduct. Verse 24 : the Holy Ghost is able to keep us from falling into sin, while we are being daily escorted into the presence of God and that we would be filled with exceeding joy, as we excel in praying in tongues. Verse 25 : states this is the plan of God which was hidden from those who oppose God, and at the same time demonstrating the wisdom and the Glory of God. Jude saying this is the method by which the power of God becomes visible and his majesty and dominion are both now and forever enjoyed. After many years of praying in tongues I often have passages of Scripture revealed to me that have been hidden previously. This is another benefit of this type of prayer the word of God is revealed in different measures that I had never experienced before I began to pray earnestly in the spirit. I guess you could also say that praying in tongues is a Revelation gift because it brings forth revelations direct from the Holy Ghost as well as revealing the written word. This type of prayer is the method which causes your future to be prayed out before you arrive, where the Scripture tells us that all things are working together for my good, you know the things you have prayed out ahead of time. God never spoke to him because he WAS a false prophet. David Wilkerson predicted there would be a global economic depression that 2ould destroy the world. Did that happen ? No, it didn't. The stock market surged to new levels. The advances in technology has transformed the world for the betterment of humanity. Why was he yelling ? All false preachers do that. I can't believe people even believed what this man said. He committed blashphamy, by claiming certain events would come to pass, that never materialized. The holy ghost isn't a ghost. It's a spirit. God doesn't posses anyone. No one knows when the last days will come . The only way to get saved, is to believe Jesus is the son of God ( not God himself), and God raised him from the dead. So if Jesus was God, and he was Jewish, that means God is Jewish? Ridiculous. He claimed Christianity is the one " truth ". What about Jews? Jesus said he came to save…" The house of Israel " what is " the house of Israel "? The Jewish people. Christian churches don't give Judaism credit for being in the forefront of Christianity, but the church has no lost love for the Jewish people. No, you do pray for tongues. No, you can't magnify the holy spirit without speaking in tongues. I know, because I have the gift of tongues. Times square church is an evil place. I know because I went there. Stay away from times square church . No, the baptism doesn't shake you, as God doesn't control people. The holy spirit ( it's not a ghost ), comes peacefully. Not the love of the world that is carnal through feelings and emotions of the flesh. To love God is to obey His commandments. It is to love as He has loved you. It is not that we loved God but that He loved us first. If you do not receive this love first you will not be given sight to see the truth. Jesus is the way, truth, and life. No one comes unto the Father but through Him. Do not look at yourself, deny yourself, and look to Jesus only. pick up your cross, the burdens to love as He loved us, bearing one another;s burdens, and then follow Jesus. There is a small church that lives by the scripture of speaking in tongues as evidence and that it is another seperate experience with God other than wonderful Salvation and water baptism. I am 21 years old and saved since I was 12. But its this year that I was babtised by the Holy ghost and 4 other members. Refugio de Los Siglos is my church. Small in local number, because people refuse to accept this truth and so they flee this power. Wonder working power. Reply S Granger says: February 8, 2019 at 12:41 pm When the disciples of John (Acts 19) were asked "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" they replied; "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit". So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?” Notice they weren't asked "which baptism?" Notice also that receiving the Holy Spirit is through baptism, hence the question "then what baptism did you receive?". That is because there is one baptism into the name of Jesus Christ unto salvation, in which you die to your old self, are buried with Christ in the watery grave in which Christ baptises with the Holy Spirit only those who go down into the water with a clear conscience toward God and a truly repentant contrite heart. Such persons are raised with Christ to a new life and are included in the invisible universal church of Christ, His body. Beautiful, simple and foolishness to those who “refuse to love the truth and so be saved”. If we look at all the situations in the book of Acts where foreign languages are spoken by people who never learned the language they find themselves speaking, we won't find the phenomenon associated with preaching the gospel or explaining the way of salvation, or being spoken as evidence that they have the Holy Spirit – however common such a misconception may be. On the Day of Pentecost, Jews from Israel who did not know the languages of the Jews of the diaspora began speaking the wonderful works of God in foreign languages (Acts 2:11). Those who heard them and understood were from the regions where these languages were spoken. "And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God". (Acts10:8-11) Notice that what was said was about God's works, and not a clear gospel presentation because the response of those who heard was, "Whatever could this mean?" (Acts2:12). This was not a gospel presentation. It was only in response to their question that Peter responded by presenting the way of salvation speaking in the local language which all the crowd, made up both of visitors and locals, understood (Acts 2:14-36). It was only after Peter preached that they understood the way of salvation and responded (Acts2:37-29). The gospel itself was not presented to them in their (many) native languages. But don't miss the flip side of what transpired! Because this is key to understanding Paul's comment about tongues being a sign [of judgment] for unbelievers. Notice that there were other Jews who also heard the foreign languages but did not understand them because they were Jews resident in Jerusalem and not from the diaspora. Their response was entirely different: Others mocking said, They are full of new wine (Acts 2:13). This is key: the praises and wonderful works of God were not proclaimed in the Hebrew or Aramaic which would have been expected due to God's previous focus on Israel and the Jews. Instead, He was using Gentile languages. In short: those skeptical Jews who were native to Jerusalem were being judged because God was not speaking in their language. These Jews thought the disciples were drunk with wine, a misunderstanding which Peter had to explain (Acts 2:15). This is very similar to the OT motive of God judging those who He had spoken to plainly: when they refused to listen, He spoke to them through foreigners whose actions they could not deny as being empowered by God. Biblical tongues are not happening today and it is vexatious to burden Christians to prove they have the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues when it is no longer a gift administered by the Holy Spirit. Scripture tells us that not every Christian spoke in tongues even when it was. People who feel they must speak in tongues to prove they have the Holy Spirit are either faking or at worse opening themselves to an un-holy spirit. Glossolalia is not biblical tongues and no one hearing the jibberish spoken by it's practitioners ever said "I hear you speaking in my own language".
