Gymkhana GRiD drift demon Jake Archer talks about 2014 Finals

Jake Archer, 31, Birmingham Even before I passed my test,
I had a huge interest in cars more so than just driving to and from work,
it was a passion way above anything else that I was interested in. I think what makes a good Gymkhana driver is passion more so than anything
and hunger to want to do well at a precision sport, rather than outright power or money. For me Gymkhana GRID is the pinnacle of this type of motorsport it encompasses drift, grip, circuit cars and
also partly rally driving as well in regards to
the AWD category. Go the fastest way rather than
the most smoky, impressive way it doesn’t always look amazing but it’s
not about that it’s about time and beating the course rather
than your competitor. Ken Block’s influence on Gymkhana GRID is
there for everyone to see. It started with the videos
and it just progressed from there for everyone and the fact that he turns up at the final
for you effectively to race a streetcar against him you wouldn’t get that in any other sport I really love Gymkhana GRID in the sense I’ve
been in it from the beginning and I love the way it’s progressing, with
it getting bigger and bigger every year. I would love to see it go to even more countries
and potentially make it a full time career. But for now I’m having a blast and enjoying
my passion, enjoying my driving I’d love to carry on
driving my car at Gymkhana GRID and any other events that I can just enjoy
my passion, enjoying the sport. I want to be the next Ken Block! [laughs]
I can’t say that!
