my father was an American soldier in the
Second World War, he served in the 4th Armored Division 53rd infantry battalion
under the infamous General George S. Patton. He arrived in France after d-day
and was involved in the famous Battle of the Bulge, where his battalion received
the Bronze Star for saving the 101st airborne my father drove the radio car,
which was a half track. Inside the radio men were native American Windtalkers, my
dad used to tell us many stories, some a little too gruesome for YouTube, however
my favorite was when his outfit was in France somewhere near Flanders, they had
stopped for rations when the group suddenly started getting shelled from
the air, in the confusion everyone scattered for cover, when my father felt
someone push him face down into the dirt, when he was able to move he looked
behind him and there was nobody there the rest of his group had gone forward,
he had been left behind, it was then that he noticed a small graveyard behind him,
he went and took a look and found graves of soldiers from the first world war
buried there, he figured one of the old soldiers came back from the great beyond
to help him and I’m quite grateful that he did, the end
