Speed Dating for Ghosts – PC Game Review – UT

Hey, dating can be hard. One has to work up the courage to talk to
others and create connections, it can be stressful. Especially when one is dead. I mean one is already dealing with the afterlife,
dating seems like too much to attempt, but with Speed Dating for Ghosts to facilitate
meeting fellow ghosts, the results can be worthwhile. So Speed Dating for Ghosts is a dating sim
where you play as a ghost that joins a speed dating service. You pick from one of three venues and meet
three ghosts in 2 rounds. After you pick the ghost you liked the most,
and if they picked you, you go on a date with them. The ghosts you converse with are from a wide
variety of ages, experiences, time periods, and appearances. Since everyone is dead, conversations usually
revolve around their deaths and how they deal with that, whether it be through jokes or
solemn contemplation. Even with a similar format every time, each
conversation you have with a ghost is an interesting one that gets you to think about death in
some way. Questions such as what is one’s purpose
after death or what did one leave behind. This culminates with the dates, which go from
attending a football game, visiting an old folks home, robbing a bank, etc. The typical dates. Each one highlights the personality of the
ghost you chose to date and can go slightly different depending on what you do. Once done, you hopefully go away with more
of an understanding of being in the afterlife, or of having fun. I enjoyed the time I spent with each ghost. I liked getting to understand why Riley enjoys
sports so much. I liked learning to be spooky with Spooky
Peter. I liked experiencing how Hattie spent her
time trying to improve people’s lives. They all gave me a warm feeling after meeting
them. The dates may be a little strange, but companionship
and someone to work through one’s afterlife with is the reward. As for the design of the game, I enjoyed how
they fixed a problem I usually have with dating sims: where they make you replay the game
to go through other routes. It cheapens the experience and makes the connections
you build feel as artificial as they actually are. However, with Speed Dating for Ghosts, you
can go on a date with each ghost in the same “timeline” as it were, just click start game
after each date. It treats it as the main character coming
back to the speed dating service where the other ghosts are still lingering around. This maintains the world so it doesn’t feel
like the time I spent with each ghost is going to be erased afterwards. It drives home the point that they all just
want to spend time with somebody else. …or someghost else. I mean they don’t have bodies anymore. Anyways, for a game about dating after death, the outlook
I got after finishing was a slightly more positive outlook on death, something I honestly
wasn’t expecting. Thank you for watching. If you enjoyed this, please consider supporting
