Therapy dogs lift Duke patients’ spirits (Video)
Come here, let’s put your vest on.
You ready? It’s amazing. To know that you’re making someones
day and making them feel a little bit better. Hey, how are you?
Something to do and the time goes faster. You have a little friend.
Dogs just have a special way of making you feel better.
He’s got a smile, see? He’s a ham. He likes the camera.
Okay, pumpkin, let’s go! We have grown to 19 handler dog teams, we
have 22 dogs. This is Kylie.
Really what the dogs are here for, is to really be able to bring a sense of normalization
for our patients. They’re always there for you especially when
you’re having a bad day, they come in and cheer you up.
Hi there! I’m Lorri, that’s Dobby. It makes it almost like you’re doing something
at home rather than going to a clinic or a doctor’s office.
Knowing what these people are going through, its tough. But, knowing that you’re making
them feel a little better, makes a big difference. They’re always there to meet you regardless
of what kind of bad day you’ve had. They make your day.
Good girl. Look at you.
Sickness I think is all just a mental state and the higher you can lift your spirits the
better you’re going to feel. I think a lot of people don’t realize that
it takes a special dog to do that. That’s a girl.
